OK, that first comment looks like it was probably taken directly off why21.org, one of MADD’s propaganda websites. If this is true, then why does nearly every other country do just fine with a drinking age of 18 or even lower? The point is, when you turn 18, you become an adult, no exceptions. Either lower the drinking age or raise the age of majority to 21.

Jim Farrell’s idea on the drinking age is not very good. In addition, 18, 19, and 20 year olds are adults so when “underage” drinking is applied to them, it’s nonsense. The drinking age must be lowered to 18 with all exceptions along with an alcohol education program. Jim Farrell is too cautious, thus I don’t endorse his idea because it’s not the correct answer. The only correct approach is to respect the age of majority by lowering the drinking age to 18 and instill responsibility in them with alcohol education.

I implore all “decision makers” who are thinking of lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 to do some research. Age 21 is not some arbitrary number chosen because we are in hopes that 21 year olds are more responsible individuals. Twenty one is the age due to the body’s maturation level. The body does not fully mature in an effort to be able to process alcohol fully until the later part of year 20. The hippocampus and the liver are severely effected prior to this age. Please research and understand the physical restrictions of the body before making a decision that could have further impacting issues for more than the occassional “drown in my own vomit” drinkers.
