Dartmouth Symposium Wrap-Up

Chistina Wray, a staff reporter with The Dartmouth, posted an article about last Friday’s MLDA 21 symposium at Dartmouth College. [CR] President John McCardell gave a presentation at the event, as did Harvard Economics Professor Jeffrey Miron and a number of other experts on the issue of the legal drinking age. The drinking age must be lowered to 18 along with the alcohol education program despite the ageism of a lot of people, including many of the audience members at the symposium. In addition, it’s a fact that the ageist drinking age encourages alcohol abuse because it disrespects the age of majority and doesn’t instill alcohol responsibility among people 18-20. Finally, although the goal of lowering the drinking age to 18 along with an alcohol education program seems distant, we must march on to make this a reality.
